38: George Monbiot's Speech
The demonstration against Climate Change was a global event, which for many activists was a fantastic success.
Twenty years of hard campaigning had paid off - finally the public, not just the ‘greens’, were reacting and making their feelings felt.
The destination of the march was Grosvenor Square, home of the American Embassy. In front of this large building we heard speeches from a mix of politicians, writers and activists.
But none of them spoke as clearly and as forcefully as George Monbiot (right and top), the Honorary President for the Campaign against Climate Change – the organisation behind this march.
His speech took the audience to a different plane of thought. If you came to the demo thinking wind power was the answer and that George Bush the problem then Monbiot had some news for you.
You are about to hear the whole of his speech and I hope you have time to listen to it – there are tough ideas in what he says and plenty of hope…
