How bands can get noticed

It was good to hear this week that Andy Fielder, singer with the dormant Hijera, is in the studio putting the finishing touches to the debut album by ‘Maths and the Moon’.

What happens after that is currently up for grabs as Andy points out he’s: “not sure where to start with getting it out there.”

If you were take current examples then Mark Hill, formealy of Artful Dodger uses a fluent mix of Twitter and Facebook to alert fans to new mixes he’s uploaded to Soundcloud.

Or you could take the traditional route pursued by Novatones who will be launching their new EP at the Soul Cellar on Saturday 21st May.

They’ll be supported by The Rising who also have a new EP available.

Another act I spoke to this week is planning to video a live show, in a select venue, and let that do its work on YouTube.

And if you watched this week’s Apprentice on BBC 1 then you’ll be thinking abut the benefits of getting a mention on an influential web site.

My pick would be the live video: something really special, using good sound, light show and cameras.

For lights I’d select the glowing Glynn Davis, for the video it would be Chris Dodd who has recently set up a new production company and for the all important sound I’d get Russ Diapper of Skullfire Records to record it with his mobile studio.

Lord Sugar might not approve but I’m fired up for it.
